ABOUT ME

Illustration MA graduate, Imogen Blackburn, is an English freelance artist based in Cornwall, UK. Her talent and passion lies in character design, incorporating her Turkish heritage into the characters and stories she imagines. Imogen’s previous education was in English, with a focus and preference in creative writing, narrative, and storytelling.

For her most recent illustration project, Imogen reimagined the Turkish myth Aynalı Mağara (Mirrored Cave), about a woman whose face was too beautiful to be looked upon by any man. Her primary focus was questioning “what is beauty?” and reimagining the tale through the eyes of a physically strong, untraditional female hero. Her character design generally focuses on shape language and expression, pushing the boundaries with dynamic poses and exaggerated emotions, and a particularly rendered style.
